Wednesday 4 February 22 at 9:30 pm at the cinema Utopia we'll see the movie The orphanage (2007), by Juan Antonio Bayona. It is a suspense film that has become a surprise success. It will premiere in the United States and was chosen to represent Spanish cinema at the Hollywood Oscars. It was in Spain, for weeks, the most watched film in cinemas (sharing headliner with [REC], which we will also see in this cycle). Criticism has turned into praise, especially for Belén Rueda's powerful interpretation.
This is the second session of the XV Cinema Series of the Catalan Center this year.
Director: Juan Antonio Bayona
Producer: Guillermo del Toro
screenplay: Sergi G. Sánchez
Actors: Belen Rueda, Fernando Cayo, Prince Roger, Mabel Ribera, Geraldine Chaplin
Argument: Laura spent her childhood in an orphanage surrounded by other children whom she loved as if they were her brothers. D'adult, she returns to the same place with her husband and seven-year-old son, Simon, with the intention of restoring the house. The building awakens Simon's imagination, which starts games “strangers” with his friends. In the bag, Laura lets herself be sucked into her son's universe, convinced that a years-old mystery lurks behind the orphanage.
