Mandarin, he 1936, the Civil War begins in Spain, the Spanish Republic asks Léon Blum for military aid, president of the French government, that makes an important decision: it is urgent to do nothing. This first decision, that arises from the gaze of one country on the other, from one side to the other, it is the beginning of numerous trips back and forth across the Franco-Spanish border, and the whole show. you go: in the hustle and bustle of the border they find a boy returning to France, French intellectuals on their way to Spain to help the Republicans, communists, soldiers, gent, passing according to the approval of the border guard. Tornadoes: refugees in disorder across the mountain, at the border again, in the French towns where, on the one hand, the administrative order reigns, and on the other, a song manages to make you forget the weight of exile. And the tragedy of the refugee camps - last consequence, still valid, of the first political decision. Three actors and a musician, to the sound of the guitar and the accordion, they give body and voice to these crossed looks over the border.
This triangle is born from the artistic and personal meeting of Mònica Almirall, Miquel Segovia and Albert Pérez Hidalgo. A l’any 2008 and within the training environment (Barcelona Theater Institute) the three decide to start a project together. The group grows and develops as the evocative capacity of its members does. Influenced by an indigestible amount of disciplines and references typical of Western culture, the group is characterized by a single constant in its projects: advocate for a laboratory theater where the process of collective creation is fundamental.
To the altra banda/On the other side is an original idea by Benoit Laudenbach with stage direction by Albert Pérez Hidalgo, interpretation by Mònica Almirall, Miquel Segovia and Benoit Laudenbach and Isabelle Laudenbach's music. It was created by the Strasbourg Hispanic Film Festival (2011). The piece has been presented in Spain (Barcelona, San Cugat, Elx) i to France (Mulhouse, Theater Festival in May 2012).
