Description

More than an atypical love story, Amor d'idiota is a story about love. Set in post-Olympic Barcelona, in full crisis, when the return to everyday life after a few months of sleep became harder, tells the story of a young man who, about to turn thirty-five, displaced, overdue and without clear future prospects, lives two circumstances that, may be, they will force him to change his life. D'band, the knowledge, five months late, of the death of a friend and, of the other, the impact of the meeting with a young woman who is dedicated to hanging banners on the city's lampposts. Amor d'idiota begins on a cold January night in 1993, when Sharon Stone's pubic hair was all the rage in our house, and ends on a Friday in May of the same year, shortly after Bruce Springsteen's concert at the Olympic Stadium. As in other novels by the author, the Barcelona backdrop does nothing but frame specific stories of very specific people: flesh and blood people who, in the midst of confusion, they try to hold on to safe values, the friendship, to assumed values, love or both at the same time. Waiting for better times, the city can only offer what it has offered two thousand years ago: pray, shelter and a little, or a lot, distraction. Lluís-Anton Baulenas (Barcelona, 1958), dramaturg i narrador, has won the Documenta awards, Carlemany, Critic Serra d'Or and Prudenci Bertrana. While his plays, in general, they reflect the great themes of the contemporary world, the narrative goes deeper in the attempt to frame key moments of Catalan history of the twentieth century. However, always from the point of view of the individual and his constant conflict with himself and with the society in which he has had to live. Among his published works it is necessary to mention The Brooklyn Bridge (theater), Names in the sand (finalist of the Sant Jordi award 1994), Alphonsus XIV (finalist of the Sant Jordi award 1996), The silver thread (1998), I congratulated him (Prudenci Bertrana Award 2001), I ara Amor d'idiot.
