Description
Following the advice of his self-sacrificing housekeeper, Mr. Mee, a cordial octogenarian, abandons his dusty books and turns to the Internet to search for Rosier's Encyclopedia, a lost book that proposes the philosophy of an alternative universe. What he finds instead is a photograph of a naked girl reading Ferrand and Minard.: Jean-Jacques Rousseau and the search for lost time. Meanwhile, in the spring of 1761, The two French copyists Ferrand and Minard are in possession of Rosier's Encyclopedia and are persecuted by the authorities, who want to take over the secrets it contains. The interwoven stories that follow deal with Rousseau's madness, of the terminal illness of a scholar in love and Mr. Mee's late discovery of sex, Of drugs and Jimmy Shand.
