20 June: nit de l'havanera

By popular demand, given the success of previous editions, this 2008 we are again organizing the Havana Night in Luxembourg. Specifically,, the day 20 from June to half past nine in the evening, a la sala Sang & Sound del Cents (1, rue des Trois Glands; Luxembourg: you can see a map here) we will celebrate the traditional Havanera song of the Catalan Center of Luxembourg. This year, in addition to the musical performance of the Vallparadís group, invited again for this occasion after their success in the previous edition, we will have bread with tomato, sausages, coca, cava and the indispensable burned.

Brief history of havanera (just in case): this musical genre was born in the middle of the 19th century in Cuba as a result of a mixture of English rhythms, French and Africans. later, disembarks in the Iberian Peninsula with sailors and emigrants returning from the island and joins the music of the theater of that time (the sarsuela), sometimes, at the opera (as is the case of Carmen). The lyrics and the rhythm of the havanera evoke a distant world and an easy life. the havanera, with its burden of melancholy, it is sung all over Spain, especially after the loss of the colonies, during the 20th century. Today it is especially sung in Euskadi (by orphans), in the area of ​​Alicante (corals) i a Catalonia (in groups of three to seven singers).

As an aperitif of the great song of Havanese of Calella de Palafrugell (experience that everyone should have, at least once in a lifetime), you can enjoy the havanera night at the Catalan Center this 20 June. as you know, the Vallparadís group can offer a repertoire that goes beyond havanera (who sing in both Catalan and Spanish) to delight us with waltzes or tavern songs to make the party more interesting. He will not be missing either burned to finish building an atmosphere between the Caribbean and the Mediterranean in the heart of Luxembourg.
