As tradition dictates, around Sant Pere, Havana Night is coming to Luxembourg. Friday 26 from June to half past nine in the evening (20.30h), a la sala Sang & Sound del Cents (1, rue des Trois Glands; Luxembourg: you can see a map here) the traditional habanera evening of Luxembourg will be held. The group Vallparadís will perform there, great friends of the CCL, which will accompany a banquet of bread with tomato, sausages, coca, cava and the indispensable burned.

As the loyal followers of the Catalan Center's Havana Night know, the Vallparadís group can offer a repertoire that goes beyond havanera (who sing in both Catalan and Spanish). His repertoire includes, among others, waltzes and tavern songs that make the party more interesting.

Four words about havanera: as a musical genre was born in the middle of the 19th century in Cuba, result of a mixture of English rhythms, French and Africans. later, would land in the Iberian Peninsula with the sailors and emigrants returning from the island and was incorporated into the theater music of that time (the sarsuela) and, sometimes, at the opera (think about Carmen). the havanera, with its burden of melancholy, it was sung all over Spain, especially after the loss of the colonies, during the 20th century. Today it is especially sung in Euskadi (by orphans), in the area of ​​Alicante (corals) i a Catalonia (in groups of three to seven singers).
