Dijous day 9, at 19.15, we will hold a round table on the new Spanish emigration. The full title will be: «The new emigration from Spain: a new reality? Figures, challenges and opportunities».
It will take place at the Catalan Center premises (88, Rue de la Semois) and will have four speakers (in addition to some representatives of this new emigration):
- Antoni Montserrat (Catalan Luxembourg Centre)
- Jose Ortiz (President of the Popular Association of Luxembourg)
- Angela Sabater (responsible for the Work and Immigration Section of the Spanish Embassy in Luxembourg)
- Pablo Sanchez (President of the FAEL, Federation of Associations of Spaniards of Luxembourg)
All residents of Luxembourg are aware that the emigration of Spaniards abroad is becoming increasingly important. The main darreres of the Register of Spaniards Living Abroad (PERE) show an increase of 129.000 people in a year and the latest quarterly population figures from the INE (Statistics National Institute) include 14.108 departures from Spain only in the first quarter of 2011.
We believe that all associations, as well as the social services of the Embassy, we have been able to verify that Luxembourg does not escape this new migratory reality. We want to give different points of view on the meaning of the statistics that we will present: Is this a new emigration?? A brain drain caused by the global economy? A failure of Spanish labor market policies? In a second part, associations and administrations will explain how they face this new migratory phenomenon.
Free entrance.
