In order to remember the hundreds of thousands of Catalans who live abroad, Sunday 28 d’abril, celebrates the International Day of Catalonia Exterior 2013.
It is an initiative of the International Federation of Catalan Organizations (FIEC), held for the first time 1998. He 4 March 1999, Parliament of Catalonia declared the official Day, with the following text: "The Parliament of Catalonia urges the Government to establish the official celebration of the International Day of Catalonia Exterior St George, or the first Sunday after St. George, if not this day falls on Sunday, and in the framework of its powers, to give visibility to this conclusion ". In this way, the Government of Catalonia, April of the same year, adopted the agreement official statement on this Day.
Since the establishment of the Day, the FIEC publishes an annual commemorative poster. This year, poster designed by Javier Mariscal, one of the most prestigious Catalan designers around the world, who has given selflessly to their design FIEC. To FIEC is a matter of legitimate pride that great artists like Tàpies, Eaves Casamada, Guinovart and now you have given Mariscal designs as a way of expressing solidarity and respect for Catalonia Exterior.
For FIEC, year, International Day of Catalonia Exterior is clearly marked by the following ongoing initiatives: 1) Improving the quality of democracy by the Catalans living abroad (reform of the electoral law); 2) Modification of the preliminary discussion on the Law of Consultation not referenda for Catalans abroad can vote in a possible consultation promoted by the Catalan Government; 3) Improving guidance, and foster opportunities for thousands of Catalans who are marching outwards; 4) Recuperació del senyal de TV3CAT via satèl·lit.
