The exhibition on the Elna Maternity invites us to discover the moving story of a remarkable success humanitarian. Fleeing troops of General Franco, prop 500.000 Spanish refugees who were crossing the border with France 1939, were interned in refugee camps, faces famine, cold and epidemics that killed dozens every day. For women in late pregnancy and for children, the health situation and the lack of medical care was particularly dramatic. Angered by this, a young teacher, Elisabeth Eidenbenz, Switzerland sent to help children, mobilized to help women and children in danger. Castle Bardou, unemployed and located in Elna, Eastern Pyrenees, maternity organized to welcome them and allow them to escape the camps. this testimony, by touching his humanity, remained virtually unknown until years 90, when children born in this maternity tracked files and Elizabeth Eidenbenz. The exhibition and the film explain the extraordinary destiny of all those who have known Elna’s Motherhood during this turbulent period of history.. En un context com l’actual, where refugees fleeing war again, history Elna Maternity reminds us of the need for solidarity and mutual aid.
