The Parliament of Catalonia approved the new Law on Catalan Community Abroad

The Parliament of Catalonia approved in the plenary session of the day 31 May

The Law of Catalan Community Abroad.

The new law is an important step in recognizing the rights of the Catalans living abroad on an equal footing with the rest of the Catalan population and from FIEC thank the Government of Catalonia and the parliamentary groups and the work done the great willingness to accept and integrate into the majority of the final text of amendments and contributions from the FIEC were sent to all parliamentary groups.

The law was approved with votes in favor of the parliamentary groups together for yes, Call-Constituent CUP, PSC and Catalonia Yes We Can and votes against and Citizens Party.

The purpose of this Act is to establish a regulatory framework governing relations between the Government of Catalonia and the Catalans living abroad, either in foreign countries or other regions of Spain, and their bodies. The regulation will repeal Law 18/1996 relations with Catalan communities abroad, from 1996, which had become outdated and do not meet the current needs of the Catalonia Exterior.
