The XXX Cinema Series of the Catalan Center starts on Monday 16 in January 19 hours with the projection d’Alcarras. As our Cycle reaches a round number, we had to celebrate it with the best Catalan film of last year.
Alcarras, directed by Carla Simón, tells the story of a family of farmers who have to leave the land they have cultivated since forever. The owner, with whom only a verbal agreement exists, he prefers to install solar panels and uproot the peach trees that are the life of the Solé family.
Carla Simon, who already succeeded in Luxembourg and in the world with his first film, summer 1993, presents a wonderful tape. In an almost documentary style, conveys a universal story in a local context, as great creators do. The merit of’Alcarras was recognized at the Berlinale, where it won the Golden Bone for the best film (first work in Catalan to achieve this). Besides, has been nominated for the European Film Awards and is a finalist at the LUX awards granted by the European Parliament.
The projection d’Alcarras, Monday 16 in January 19 hours, in Catalan and subtitles in French, will take place in the cinema Utopia, old Limpertsberg, which will also host the other screenings of this XXX Film Series. Warning: tickets must be purchased directly at film web or at the Utopia box office.

The rest of the XXX Cycle films will be Liberty (by Clara Roquet, 23 January), Bikes (children's film, 28 January) and The yellow roof (by Isabel Coixet, 2 February). For this last screening we will have the presence of one of the film's actresses, Violet Portal.
The XXX Cinema Series is supported by Catalan Films and TV, Transports Fernández and the Secretary of External Action and the European Union of the Generalitat of Catalonia. It also has the collaboration of the Spanish Embassy in Luxembourg.
