Thursday 19 of March we will meet at the premises at 19 hours. In our Literary Café, we will analyze a dark novel by a Catalan author with a long career: The crimes of honey by Pep Coll. An ideal author for a 19 March, hey?
In the decade of 1950, in a town of Pallars, a murder occurs in the middle of the night. A gypsy dies and his companion, Ferid, manages to escape. The next morning, a farmer in the area confesses the crime to the civil guard and the machinery of investigation and prosecution is set in motion. This work of Pep Coll it starts from a real event, which he reworks with full creative freedom, to draw a picture of the society of a very specific time and geographical area. The characters we see happen there are of all kinds (traveling gypsies, farmers (rich and poor), civil authorities, police and ecclesiastics) and they form several parallel societies with few points of contact and some of conflict. There is no shortage of real events, which give more consistency to the fiction.
In this meeting we will also discuss some new reading proposals. We remember you, in addition, that he 7 in May there will be a new meeting of the Café, around Carme Riera's book leaves you, amor, the sea as pledge.
