Catalan revenge is a historical novel about the Companyia Catalana d'Orient narrated from below: follows a small group of Almogàvers and the families that accompany them. The book dismantles the national epic around this group of mercenary fighters and Roger de Flor. In contrast, shows the Byzantine campaign as a murky mechanism of power, diners i ressentiments. Besides, offers a detailed look focused on the domestic problems and everyday life of the soldiers.
Amb un to deliberadament antièpic, Catalan revenge combines historical rigor and contemporary literary sensibility to discuss the human cost of war. Of all the wars.
Xavier Castells Montero has a degree in Biology from the Barcelona University. He has worked in research, teaching and environmental interpretation. His research work has mainly focused on the Pyrenees. He dedicates his time to the naturalistic photography and collaborates with flora and fauna websites with images and data. He is the author of several technical studies and guides. He recently discovered fiction writing and Catalan revenge is his first novel.
